Project 4: Introduction to networks

Description

I have learned to create virtual machines using VmWare. Clients and servers being based on Debian, Ubuntu and Windows operating systems. I have also configured Debian and Windows as a server with basic services such as the DNS, DHCP, NTP or SMTP. I then was able to configure Ubuntu as a router in order to connect the VM's to the internet, thus creating two interface cards on the machine and then configuring the correct gateway on the other VM's. And lastly, I also have learned to secure the Debian and Ubuntu servers to a minimum by installing fail2ban, configuring the servers to perform automatic updates, SSH for securing remote connections, Spamassassin and configuring the UFW. As a follow up to this project I later on was able to create a network in real conditions divided in several zones (Opnsense as router between the zones) using VmWare and mapping it. Going further by configuring the Opnsense firewall for each zone (limiting the traffic going in and out of the administrative zone for example)
